Environmental Impact Statement
The PNG LNG Project Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was submitted to the PNG Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) on January 23, 2009.
Submission of the EIS follows approval of the Environmental Inception Report (EIR) by DEC in November 2007.
The EIS has been prepared to meet State of PNG environmental and social requirements applicable to the Project and will allow the DEC to commence the review and approval process required prior to the granting of an environmental permit which is a precondition for the implementation of the Project. The EIS has been prepared to reflect applicable PNG regulatory and legal requirements, as well as the feedback previously received from the DEC on the EIR.
The EIS constitutes the initial step in the development of PNG LNG’s environmental and social management processes. PNG LNG and its consultants are currently in the process of preparing additional studies, reports and management plans intended to complement the EIS and ensure that adverse environmental and social impacts are mitigated and beneficial impacts enhanced during the execution of the Project and that all applicable laws regulations and standards are complied with.
