Enterprise Centre

The Institute of Banking and Business Management Enterprise Centre, located in Port Moresby, was established by the PNG LNG Project in 2010 to create economic opportunities for Papua New Guinean businesses and develop the capabilities of local landowner companies and contractors, as well as PNG suppliers and vendors, as part of the PNG LNG National Content Plan.

From the beginning, we have shared a common goal of building the capacity of local suppliers. Our partnership has assisted 20,000 local businesses and entrepreneurs. Approximately 600 business assessments have been completed resulting in the development of Business Improvement Plans for each of these businesses. In total more than 46,500 days of training has been delivered to the Papua New Guinean business community.

One of the early actions of the Enterprise Centre was to establish a supplier database to facilitate communication between local businesses and PNG LNG Project contractors. The employment and supplier database has more than 1,500 registered businesses and now has a much broader goal to connect landowner companies and SMEs to business opportunities right across PNG. Top performing businesses registered with the supplier database are recognised for their performance and services at a bi-annual small to medium enterprise awards ceremony in Port Moresby.

The Enterprise Centre has been a critical success factor in helping local companies and entrepreneurs to build capacity and certifications that meet the international standards required by our business and many other companies in PNG.

The Enterprise Centre offers a wide range of services to PNG businesses including:

  • Business Information Centre
  • The PNG Employment and Supplier Database for job seekers and businesses
  • Assessment of PNG businesses
  • Gap analysis and business improvement plans
  • Capacity-building programs to close identified gaps in assessments and implement the business improvement plan
  • Business training, advisory, mentoring and coaching
  • Facilitation of access to finance
  • Facilitation of access to employment and business opportunities
