School children from the Juni Primary School in Hela Province will have brand-new desks when school starts this week.
The staff from PNG LNG's Hides Gas Conditioning Plant (HGCP) made this possible by spending their Christmas day to design and construct the desks.
Juni Primary School Head Teacher, Shelly Kaiabe, said the new desks would replace older ones in several classrooms.
"This donation is timely as we are starting school in two weeks. The students will be very excited to see the new desks," Mrs Kaiabe said.
ExxonMobil PNG's HGCP Maintenance Supervisor, Rajasekaran Gunasekaran, said the HGCP team was proud to support the school, "We had forty staff participate in the initiative in 2020. Everyone on the team worked together, and we are extremely proud and humbled to be able to serve and support the kids at Juni Primary School."
ExxonMobil PNG has supported schools and multiple other community initiatives adjacent to the PNG LNG Project infrastructure.
Support includes funding infrastructure projects such as classrooms, teachers' houses, refurbishing existing school facilities, and providing teachers with capacity building programs.
