Four Papua New Guinean businesses received awards recognising their contribution to digital innovation on 10 September in Port Moresby.

The MSMEs were recognised for being innovative and using the digital technology platform as part of their process for providing a service. These companies have either developed applications or have been using digital and ICT (information and communication technology) platforms for their business operations.

ExxonMobil PNG Managing Director Andrew Barry congratulated the winners and said ExxonMobil PNG is committed to recognising and encouraging the growth of SMEs.
“Acknowledging businesses that utilise digital technology as part of their processes and services in Papua New Guinea is an important next step in encouraging digital inclusiveness,” said Mr Barry. “The digital innovation awards recognises and encourages SMEs to embrace technology and continue to grow in an ever-changing digital world.”
“It was a daunting task to assess over 100 companies from the ICT and digital space within a space of six weeks but the business assessment team performed exceptionally well and were very impressed with the standard of entries,” said Johnson Pundari, IBBM Executive Director.
From the 100 entries received from Papua New Guinean companies three finalists were selected for each of the four categories to present to a panel of judges representing various sectors of the economy. The fifth category, the People’s Choice Award, was decided by a public poll.
Award winners will receive training provided by the IBBM Enterprise Centre to support future digital endeavors and strengthen their business governance, management and operations.
The 2018 SME Digital Innovation Awards were sponsored by ExxonMobil PNG and managed by its long-standing local business development partner, the IBBM Enterprise Centre. Additional support was provided by category sponsors MiBank, Origin Energy, Kina Bank, Westpac Bank and Nasfund.
