Scooping the grade 8 dux of the year award for Juni Primary School in Hela Province is Hubert Takuali. Getting good grades has always come naturally for Hubert. Born and raised in Juni, he hopes to continue to grade 9 at Tari Secondary school next year and later study engineering at a university so one day he can work at the Hides Gas Conditioning Plant.
Hubert explains that his success has been through studying and listening and obeying his parents and teachers.
He is among some of the bright students from 38 schools from within PNG LNG Project areas which, operator ExxonMobil PNG has supported with dux awards for this year.
The purpose of this program is to encourage and motivate students to focus on their studies and aim high.
“Education is always our priority in our project area because we believe that by educating the children of today, we are securing a better future for the communities we work in,” said Debbie Maraki, Community Development Support Manager of ExxonMobil PNG.
ExxonMobil PNG has been supporting dux awards for schools in its project areas since 2015. It also runs a science ambassador program in schools in its project areas to encourage students to consider studying science, technology, engineering, and math.
