- Hides Gas Development Company, Laba Holdings Limited and Trans Wonderland Limited celebrate 10 Years with the PNG LNG Project
ExxonMobil PNG today hosted board and senior managers of Hides Gas Development Company, Laba Holdings Limited and Trans Wonderland Limited at its PNG LNG Plant site to celebrate a decade of partnership with the PNG LNG Project. Joining the celebrations was guest of honour Prime Minister of PNG, James Marape, and Ministers from the National Executive Council.
Since its establishment, Laba has flourished into a successful business that completes labour supply services in catering, camp maintenance, security, transport and civil work for ExxonMobil PNG.
Trans Wonderland Limited has become a leading transport and logistics company in Papua New Guinea and has long provided transport and support services to ExxonMobil PNG.
Hides Gas Development Company has professionally supplied ExxonMobil PNG with skilled labour in civil construction, catering and security services, employing over 3000 Papua New Guineans at the peak of PNG LNG’s construction.
“ExxonMobil PNG is very proud to have watched and supported the development of these three Papua New Guinean businesses,” said Andrew Barry, Managing Director of ExxonMobil PNG.
“Supporting local businesses is a priority for us. Without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today – successfully delivering the country’s first LNG project.”
The partners have overcome challenges to achieve their success including expanding their services and diversifying their client basis to adapt to the changing needs of the business.
“The contribution PNG businesses like Hides Gas Development Company, Laba Holdings Limited and Trans Wonderland Limited have made to ExxonMobil PNG’s success is considerable and grows year on year as the skills and capacity of these local companies increase,” Mr Barry said.
ExxonMobil PNG engages local suppliers for a range of production-related activities and currently contracts 16 landowner companies to provide labour hire, maintenance, scaffolding, rigging, fabrication, transportation, fuel distribution, container freighting, catering, camp services, food supply and more.
It also contracts another 250 non-landowner Papua New Guinean businesses for services such as transportation of personnel, security, freight and logistics, food supply, customs clearance and medical services.
Since 2010, PNG LNG has spent more than K14 billion on Papua New Guinean services, including K6 billion spent with landowner companies.
